Community Garden

On November 1st, 2024, CCTNC performed our very first production–Community Garden–at Gateway Conference & Event Center in Clayton, North Carolina. Our first performance was an amazing experience, and we pulled it off beautifully, despite the many challenges encountered as a brand-new start-up with zero outside funding at the beginning of our production period. The sold-out show was a big hit and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. We’re looking forward to a reprisal of Community Garden in 2025–keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information.

About Community Garden, a play by Justin Borak:

In a series of heartfelt and humorous vignettes, Community Garden digs into the ways taking care of the environment helps people take care of each other.

Uptown Chicago, newbie Ralph doesn’t quite know what to expect during his first volunteer shift at Uptown City Gardens. It’s certainly not the vibrant, bustling community that passes through the green space, checking on their plants, composting their food scraps, meeting up with friends, and—surprisingly often—falling in love. After a few hours, Ralph begins to understand seasoned volunteer Donald’s claim that the garden is magic. In a series of heartfelt and humorous vignettes, Community Garden digs into the ways taking care of the environment helps people take care of each other.

Cast & Crew:

ALLISON DUNN

Hey, my name is Allison Dunn, I am playing Davie and Sadie. This is the first play I have been in outside of school, so I am super excited to be a part of the team!

I am an empty nest mother of 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren. I love to travel both in the US and out and spend time with my husband of 13 years and our 2 dogs, Miles and Bella. My professional life has been in the IT field of insurance for over 23 years, but in my spare time, I love doing puzzles, reading fantasy novels or playing video games.

ANDREA MALONEY
EILEEN PROCTOR

Eileen Proctor is an unabashed Broadway fanatic who has enjoyed 100+ live performance shows as an audience member. She is thrilled to be onstage this time, and to be a part of CCT’s history as a cast member in their inaugural production. A native New Yawkah, Eileen & her wife live in Flowers with their 4 adorable, adopted fur kids.

Erik is playing the role of Ralph, a brand new volunteer at Uptown City Gardens. Navigate his very first day on the job with him; you’ll find it’s full of lots of fun surprises, and lessons about life, love and community.

ERIK YOUMAN
JOHN SULLIVAN

John is fearlessly playing two roles in Community Garden–that of Adam, a lovable about-to-be-engaged young man, as well as Andy, who is just a little more difficult to love!

Kelly is an entrepreneur, an author, a YouTuber and a professional crafter. She spent her high school and early college years on stage, performing in various shows and completing two years as an Opera Performance major. After 20 years in the corporate training field, she became an entrepreneur in 2012, building several successful businesses and helping other business owners make the transition from corporate to entrepreneurship. She is thrilled to be back on stage to perform with Clayton Community Theatre.

KELLY PHILLIPS

KEVIN DARBRO

Kevin Darbro is a carbon-based lifeform residing in the greater Clayton metro area with his lovely, sarcastic, witty wife, Mary. They are both ruled by the whims of Freddie, a young black and white tuxedo cat who demands daily treats and attention. Kevin has disgraced stages in the greater central North Carolina area since the mid 1990s as an actor, musician, and multimedia artist for The Somnambulist Project, Archipelago Theatre, Theatre in the Park, and the Neuse Little Theatre. He is gainfully employed as a Senior Instructional Designer with Dell Technologies, and he occasionally provides voice over narration and characterizations for various YouTube things. He’s also written for and appeared in several sketch comedy videos as well as independent Triangle-based film projects. He will try to guess the number and/or fraction you are thinking of between one and infinity, but due to legal reasons it must be stated that there’s no guarantee of accuracy.

Liza Ginette Bell has been a performer since toddlerhood. She has a background in dance, and performed in high school and college theater. Her love of theater grew as she watched her uncle perform in his own high school and college productions, and sometimes performed with him, when they needed a child actor. Liza makes her debut with Clayton Community Theatre, in the roles of Sadie and Jordan, and looks forward to serving the community with many more performances.

LIZA GINETTE BELL
MAK PETERSEN

Mak Petersen is a 17 year-old senior at Corinth-Holders High School. He spends his free time doing theater and choir as he aims to pursue musical theater as a career.

Payton Knopp is extremely proud to be joining the first production of Clayton Community Theatre. She has previous experience in theatre at Corinth Holders High School. She would like to thank everyone who made this show possible including the audience and her fellow cast mates.

PAYTON KNOPP
VINNY MONTELLO

Vinny comes to the Clayton stage after decades of acting and writing for television. For 12 years before that Vinny was a standup comic headlining comedy clubs, colleges and casinos in the US and abroad. It was during his first North Carolina gig (at the old Charlie Goodnight’s) in Raleigh back in 1990 that he fell in love with the Carolinas. Vinny, along with his wife and puppy finally moved to Clayton in 2017 where life was almost perfect. The one missing ingredient was… live theater. And now with the Clayton Community Theatre Company, Vinny has everything he needs to enjoy every bit of his new hometown.

Riley has been passionate about acting and theater for as long as he can remember, always eager to entertain and brighten the mood with a good laugh. These days, his favorite audience is his wife and two sons, but he’s thrilled to return to the stage and share some joy with the Clayton community, and hopefully find many more future opportunities to put on a show!

RILEY CARRASQUILLO
SARAH HASEMEIER CHERA

Sarah Hasemeier Chera is delighted to be a part of Clayton Community Theatre’s very first production. She has participated in community theatre in her younger days living in New York and Pennsylvania. Sarah even had a plot in a community garden once, year-long waiting list and all. She lives in Clayton with her husband and two daughters.
